    ReplyDelete
  10. Geez guys.... you really made our choice hard! Congratulations to everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  11. You think you have it hard???? After doing this a couple times, I REALLY appreciate what the admin staff has been doing forever. It is a lot of work (and a lot of fun, too) and special thanks to Mia, Lisa, Joanne, Vic and Mo for all the work they did this week. (Especially with Multiply not cooperating on several days).

    ReplyDelete
  12. LOL Harriet, thanks to you too!
Boi, I feel I need a resthome now after all this...

    Mia

  17. looks like the race is on! there were so very many talented entries! while the 'judging' was fun and interesting and hard work, the voting is the icing on the cake!

congratulations to all the top tens and HMs!

After this competition, I have a greater appreciation for our usual admins.... they keep us challenged and focused every week, they dedicate a lot of time and creative thought to keep this group together, thank you guys!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Congratulations to all the Top Ten's and Honorable Mentions! This was...to say the least...one of the hardest processes I've ever been involved in...and mind you...I have given birth...twice...LOL

Seriously...it was an honor to be given the opportunity to be a small part of this weeks Picture Perfect Bonus Competition.

Please forgive me for not coming to your pages and congratulating you personally...but I had to leave work early this afternoon...there was a sudden death in my family.

    Good Luck to Everyone...:-)

  19. Congratulations to all the Top Tens and Honorable Mentions !!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. wow i havent been able to make all the entries as the temps here are in the 70s and work is slamming this weekend ..however i will try and get around to the TT before voting ..or should I just vote for the #1 spot lol...the six of you did very with the theme ..so is everyone ready to get back to business as usual next week?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Define "business as usual" ....hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  22. Gave my vote to the one (ONE!) entry who's the only top ten photographer to follow the rule about not having the pic stored at some other web photo repository - all the rest are Photbucket or Flikr!

Is it really too much effort to take your Photobucket or Flickr photo, download it back to your computer, then upload it directly into your multiply blog competition entry post?! Sheet!

We who have slow broadband Salute the photographer of Escape Plan!

    ReplyDelete
  23. There is no rule about having your photo stored anywhere. It says to post your entry on Multiply....in other words not to post a link to follow to go see the photo at another site. I hope this will clear that question up for you.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Most of us store and edit our photos in other sites....ie Flicker, photobucket, picnik, picasa, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  25. ok so Val & I were out together w/Monika today when we saw from our phone's the top 10 and we had to congratulate each other. ;) It's always such a surprise and honor. Congrats to one and all! So many great pics.....

    ReplyDelete
  26. yes! first time i got to see anyone from multiply! very exciting day. spent the whole time in annapolis. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. so awesome! can't wait to see the pics!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yay Kimmie and Val...it's wonderful to meet the people in person. Will be looking forward to the photos

    ReplyDelete
  29. it's not really that it's too much effort, it's that we can make our pic the size we like for the page. if we upload it from our computer as a multiply photo onto our blog it's one standard size, and often too small. :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL...can't wait to meet you too gator. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. hopefully that will be in august :) kimmy...its going to be a great shoot

    ReplyDelete
  32. love Nap town to by the way..spent a few months there a few years ago

    ReplyDelete
  33. Congrats to all the top ten and honorable mentions. There were so many great pieces this week chosing was difficult. It a pleasure working with Harriet, Joanne, Mia, Mo and Lisa. Thanks M'Ladies, you made it fun.

Good luck to each top tenner. After four days looking at this I'm still at odds who to vote for.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Obviously there's a difference interpreting a simple statement written in simple english, even when it is a complex sentence.

    From the "rules": ...
Post your picture on an authentic blog page and not in one of your online photo-albums, or to any site other than Multiply. This makes visiting by the admins easy and hassle free

Simplified - Post your picture on an authentic blog page
    not
in one of your online photo-albums, or
to any site other than Multiply .

This makes visiting by {everyone] easy and hassle free.
What part of that is so hard to deal with?

    ReplyDelete
  35. as cherie has pointed out..the rules only state that the blog and entry has to be on xply..so you ddont have to redirect to another site to see the image or to comment on it..nothing about the image being hosted and linked back from another source and viewed on xply

    ReplyDelete
  36. the pictures ARE posted on our multiply page....doesn't seem hard to understand that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Don't they mean that the picture itself has to be in a Multiply Blog and not a link that takes you outside of Multiply?

I mean, if you click on my picture from my blog, yes it will take you back to my Flickr site, but it's the only way I can post a picture that is a decent size. Even if I download the largest photo back onto the computer, and then try and put it in my blog, it shows up as one size, which is too small for the competition.

I'm not sure why the admins would not let a picture that is 'stored' on flickr or photobucket be eligible for a competition? As long as they don't have to navigate OUTSIDE of the Multiply site, what is the problem? Unless I'm missing something......

    ReplyDelete
  38. Picture Perfect Bonus Competition Working together from Earth Eagle on Vimeo.Honorable Mention Slide Show
Slide Show for the Top Ten will come on Sunday night or sometime Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  39. what would the weekend be without some drama????

    ReplyDelete
  40. i think its pretty clear to everyone that posted this week what the rules are

    ReplyDelete
  41. Next time you visit an entry that takes a long time to load,
read the status bar at foot of window.
    <
That tells you that multiply's system is having to drag your picture
through the bandwidth to get it into the page you're on.

    Some sites refer to that as "bandwidth theft";
hence my total acceptance of multiply's rule.

Watching a fast-to-load photo entry, and again read the staus bar
to realise it's only downloading it to your computer direct from the entrant's site,
not crawling the ethernet looking for the darn thing. -->

    ReplyDelete
  42. are you saying that on a slower computer, any picture that has it's original data on an external site like Flickr or Photobucket takes longer to load? And that if it's a picture that has been uploaded from the host's own computer does not take long to load?

THAT I can understand the frustration with, if that's the case. I had no idea that it would load differently on a slower computer....

    ReplyDelete
  43. maybe you were experiencing the lag that most everyone on multiply was experiencing for two days or so

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes I have a lag - I moved from a high-speedbroadband part of town to a low-speed part - three months ago.

But I think I'd rather leave the group than work in an environment where users break rules and deny them without any twinge of conscience.
Or without any inkling of the meaning of the rule itself.
And without admins giving a damn.

    So good bye, all,
may you sinkin your own mire.

    ReplyDelete
  45. OMG! You're just being silly now...

    ReplyDelete
  46. THANK YOU _ "By George, she's Got It!"

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think she's doing the right thing...

    ReplyDelete
  48. then feel free to remove yourself..its not that hard

    ReplyDelete
  49. the issue is that we don't know we are 'breaking the rules' because those aren't the rules!! I can understand your frustration with the lag, but I really and truly honestly believe that the rules were just to keep people from making you leave multiply to see the picture, and had nothing to do with the issue you are experiencing.

You seem to be quite angry over something that no one is doing intentionally.....

    ReplyDelete
  50. Gary, there used to be a tutorial here about posting larger images without using a hosting site, because it's how I learned to do it. Is it still here?

    ReplyDelete
  51. there is lanie..but the simple fact is it is more convenient to let sites like flickr and photobucket do them..most folks dont want to learn html to learn to change the way xply lets you post

    ReplyDelete
  52. That's true, it is. My photobucket filled up real fast, and I was always forgetting and deleting the pics, lol. That's the only reason I went to posting the other way.

    ReplyDelete
  53. a while back xply change the way they upload their images..in order for them to save bandwidth..thats why when you upload and image in a blog format its one size

    ReplyDelete
  54. simply create extra accounts as they fill up..i have several on flickr as one fills i make another

    ReplyDelete
  55. I will go check that out, myself, I must have missed it somewhere along the way. I've often wondered how to do that, because sometimes I have a picture on my computer that I want to share, that I don't want to put on Flickr, just so I can get a larger size into my blog!!

I'm sorry Redpen is so frustrated, and I can understand the frustration with the lag, but I had absolutely no idea that the load time was different depending on how the pictures were inserted into the blog. I'm betting most people don't, because you'd only know if you had a slower connection than normal.......

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have one at picasa, but it's about to fill up...

I don't like the way the pics look when posting through xply's uploader...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yup, that's what I said... I think...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hollwhrt was just being more diplomatic...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hehehe, yes, cause that's me... Mr. Diplomatic... :D

    ReplyDelete
  60. *sits in the middle of the chaos and smiles*

    ReplyDelete
  61. Congrats to all the Top Ten nominees and the HMs. Many thanks for the HM on my photo :-))

NB. Nice vid of the HMs by Willlburr.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sits on the sidelines and knows how to use html, so I watch and laugh all all the funny comments.

    ReplyDelete
  63. windi there is no guarantee that a picture and the blog are even going to be stored on the same server by xply..and i go to peoples photo galleries and the pics all load goofy...but yes if you have a slower connection it will cause some degree of lag..but unless you are a dial up im doubting you will see much lag..most of the lag for two days was an internal problem on xply that almost everyone here experienced

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yup, I couldn't get into it for hours on Friday... or sometime during the week. I don't remember, they all meld into one another.

    ReplyDelete
  65. if you look at the code for an image you will see img src= and a bunch of thngs including the site its stored on with a set of brackets around it..images come to us by hyperlinks

    ReplyDelete
  66. Bottom line for people that are not sure how to load a image or post one is Ask First, go look at how some of the other people are posting, If you don't get it right and get told you are doing it wrong there is no need to make a fuss, either learn the right way or Go away. most of us here do not need or want to hear people complaining, There is enough of that in the real world without having it here.

    There I said my Peace...

    ReplyDelete
  67. I know diddly squat about all this stuff, to be honest. All I want is to be able to post the size picture I want into my blog without too much effort, and all the html gobbledygook is completely over my head! hahaha I can copy and paste html, and that's the extent of my knowledge!

I'm just trying to understand what the frustration is about on redpenn's end......at least I know know it's not because we don't understand the rules *or are breaking them with nary a twinge of our conscience*! I honestly think she thought you posted the rules because of this 'lag' issue, and not because people were posting links that took you away from Multiply all together (which I remember happening and was annoying)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ooooo!!! I missed all the excitement when I stepped out for dinner.
I use Picasa on my desktop to organize my photos, and when I upload to the online Picasa from there, I have the option of uploading the original sized photo. I would think that would give you a decent resolution (if you took a decent photo to begin with!)
Now, I think I'll vote and see who's doing what!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's okay....she's taken her marbles and gone to play in someone else's sandbox.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mine come through divine inspiration...

    ReplyDelete
  71. lol well lets let it die..folks keep on posting the way you have been..all is good..

    ReplyDelete
  72. divine perspiration in your case duckie

    ReplyDelete
  73. I lick the windows on the bus... :D

    ReplyDelete
  74. I was thinking more along the lines of white jackets....

    ReplyDelete
  75. There's a closet full of 'em... (ok, so it's the same closet I keep the kids in when they're here, but shhhh...)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hey thanks everyone for the top 10 selection! Way cool! Yup, Kimmy, Monika, and I were in Annapolis all day shooting...it was a blast! Especially sitting at dinner congratulating each other on the top 10's~ And we were drama free til we came home! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  77. did you eat at the cracked claw..down near the city marina?

    ReplyDelete
  78. if it takes too long to load...i will go do something else until it does.....its really no big deal.....

    ReplyDelete
  79. good heavens.....its called being a drama queen

    ReplyDelete
  80. Another place after my own heart... :D

    ReplyDelete
  81. No, Joss's I think it was for sushi (bait for lunch!) and then Kilkarny (I probably spelled that wrong!) for dinner - Irish pub. But we did walk around the city marina, the naval academy, and the capitol building. It was a blast! More shoots planned for later! It's gonna be a pretty regular thing for us!

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention earlier, Congrats to everyone on the top 10's and HM's, totally awesome photos! Be proud!

    ReplyDelete
  82. very kewl ive shot a ton in nap town

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  85. LOL...I'm about to have myself a "Nap attack" LOL. Hey, work on Cynde and get her to come down for the August shoot! Autotrain is a cheap ride= drops right at Charlotte, 1 1/2 hours from Chuckietown! You and your car travel in style and comfort, no wear and tear on either of you.

    ReplyDelete
  91. lol you were saying that all day! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  92. That is what I thought but wasn't sure if rules had been changed. I use a Multiply album and my external hard drive for photos and videos because that is what works for me.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I bet you three had a blast.
    Wish I could of come.
    Loved the picture on flickr.
Your hair looked great I mean wild. LOL!
    You keep good company.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I have had this pleasure, meeting some of my contacts though our love of horses, developing friendships in person.

    ReplyDelete
  95. This is so very beautiful and most thoughtful of you, thank you. You're a class act :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thanks for the honor to be in the top 10 with so many
    wonderful photo's.
Congratulations to everyone up there and the honorable mentions and
    everyone that entered the competition.
    You all rock!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. When I visited the top ten and honorable mentions tonight, it was slower than usual, but not as bad as it was for a couple of days. I do have DSL though our rural telephone cooperative but we're on the "end" of the line so it's not real fast but so much better than dial up.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Windows has a real easy re-sizer for photos. Large, Medium, small, and mobile. Re-size the original or make a copy and keep the full size which I do. Can re-size one or a whole file. Free program. Does not work on vista. I use the small for emails & Facebook, etc but have started using the mobile since a lot of friends use their phones and not computers.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Great job on the slidshow Will.
    I loved it.
I agree with Maggie You are a class act.

    ReplyDelete
  100. we truely did have a blast! wish you could have been here too sue. one day!!! :))
i literally live 20 minutes from monika and have been friends w/her on xply for over 3 yrs.
can't believe this is the first time we've gotten together. it took val to do that. ;) she lives
40 min from me. anytime anyone near maryland wants to get together with us let us know!
we definitely want to do it more.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Does anyone every come to the panhandle of Texas? I'm a long ways from everything!

    ReplyDelete
  102. congrats on the top ten and hm!

    ReplyDelete
  107. And I am so excited to be part of that race. Thanks everyone for the comments on my photo. It's an honor to be among the other top ten. The honorable mentions are great too.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Good Morning everyone. As per usual you all have a head start on us here in Africa, I presume Europe too would have that problem.146 comments already, so better get reading and voting. Congratulations to all Top Ten and to all the HM. I see my choice is amongst the Tops so voting will be easy for me this time. Next week ??????????????? Gosh, see we had drama again while I slept ???? Oh well, sure it got sorted without too many feathers ruffled. Love you all ! Have a Super Sunday !!

    ReplyDelete
  109. uuuuuuuuuh, you all look freezing cold. I am jealous, you are lucky you are so close that you can visit.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  113. I will ditto that one 100 % . The dedication of you guys are overwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  114. and there is always so many people eager to share their knowledge. I know I have asked several silly questions and yelled Help several times and always my inbox is full of kind helpful advice from tons of members. It really is an awesome group and true, true, the last thing we need is drama and complaining.

    ReplyDelete
  115. re: redpen aka Lynne:: ( whom I do not know at all) In some way I hear where she is coming from, though without the anger and malice *smile* I also have a very slow ADSL line, and some photos takes ages to show when I visit the page. Could be this is what she refers to ?? I take my photos from my file in My Documents in Windows, upload to Picnik or Flickr or Photobucket to do my edits and framing, save them back into Desktop, Multiply Photos and then upload them into My Blog. If I size them 600 x 900 I then save as draft, click on the photo for HD , copy that , go edit the blog, paste into blog and voila the right size, sometimes *grins* I have had a lot of advice about sizing but sometimes still battle.
That said, the malice and anger was uncalled for in those comments .

    ReplyDelete
  116. Sure looks like the spell is broken from where I am sitting. Dillon and Colt is winning by a nose I think.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Just popped by each Top Ten before I voted, haven't been around at all for this comp, sorry all...but wow what a fantastic array of pictures this week...I had a really hard time voting!!!

Thanks so much to our Top Ten Winners for hosting this weeks competition, you've done an awesome job!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Every single Top Ten selection and HM adhered strictly to the rules laid down by the admins of this site!

I have engaged in endless pms with you during the past few weeks. There is NO rule that says people cant store their pictures on flickr, photobucket or any other site. The rule is..that the link you leave here on Picture Perfect takes us to your multiply site. I'm not sure how many people can answer that question in ways you are able to understand...

Sheet..you are not expected to click on any-ones picture in the first place. Just go to their pages and look at the darn picture...look, don't touch!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Wow what a tight race we have here folks! And looks like we have broken the #1 spell for this year lol! Not that the image isn't deserving of a win, I don't mean that at all!!

I don't understand the complaint from Ms redpenn at all she has been complaining at I&W also but there she is talking about bandwith theft and that anyone who shares an image hosted by another site is a thief lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. CONGRATS TO THE TOP TEN AND TY FOR CHOOSING MINE AS HM

    ReplyDelete
  121. ehhh... all the entries are exceptionally great. the shots are so vivid and clear. the photos just mind blowing. i will vote later. so hard to decide now.

    ReplyDelete
  122. uh-oh. someone's throwing tantrums?!!!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Congratulations to All. Nice team efforts.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I love a rational debate and difference of opinion, but when someone is just plain nasty its time to show them the door...

    ReplyDelete
  125. Absolutely wonderful pictures this week..

    ReplyDelete
  126. Congratulations to the HM and the other Top Ten! So many beautiful and interesting images to see here!

Also those who are not mentioned!

    ReplyDelete
  127. What Marianne describes here now seems the only way to get a decent size photo into a blog
without using a hosting site. I found my photos came out too big doing it that way, but you can
actually change the size in the html code to what you want. It won't let you, when using the "share"
code... Earlier, you could also click up to any slide show size and then copy and paste from there.
But now that doesn't seem to work anymore...

  128. Dial up is going to be slow...even if there isn't a picture...just sayin,,,:-)

  129. I think you helped me with that one???? It is time consuming, but I could not do it any other way, could not get it right. My connection is too slow. I could upgrade but Internet access is very expensive in South Africa, just like cell-phones are and even landlines. We have one of the highest tariffs in the world.
I often sit for 2 hours just looking at the entries, as they take so long to upload. The picture literally inches across the screen as it emerges, some I can go to the bathroom and back before they appear.

  130. @ marianne, may i suggest you moving here in korea? we have 100mbps internet connection for just 24 bucks a month. just sayin:)

@mowm: if the photo from the multiply album is too big, it can always be re-sized on the edit window by just dragging the corners (the photo size will show if you point your cursor on the corner of the photo) until you get the desired size.

  133. Lots of drama here today. I have no idea how to size for Multiply, so I create a blog in Blogspot and import it to Multiply. Basic and easy for a lady that has very little computer knowledge. I hope I am meeting your requirements.

  134. Morning all..

Well the trick I use is that when copying the html code from my 'large' picture in flickr, I always choose a width of 740 then delete the height which then allows the picture to adjust automatically to the correct height. I only copy the part of the html from < img though, and this will then prevent anyone from clicking on the picture and accessing my flickr account.

If you click on the header here for instance it wont take you anywhere...

  135. what is the best size to use when posting photos shot 'portrait' rather than landscape?

  136. what an excellent advise! I've been pondering on this..

  137. I have... back in Nov. of 06.... it was awesome! Took some wonderful photos that weekend, too. :)

  138. Hee Hee...Sue, I say we don't tell them that the two with the least votes are actually the winners! LOL...Lordy wouldn't that create some drama! LOL...I'm just being bad now...and laughing at all the foolishness!

  139. I wanted to get in one last vote before my surgery. I wont' be online at all for a while. I still don't have a computer though, I'm using my son. These photos are all awesome. There's a few that I would love to have framed and hanging on my wall, but I've chosen one I'd have for a winner if I were judge. Best of luck to all.

  140. One hour and twenty something minutes to go...:-)

  141. it's sure been an interesting race to watch. i got to get back to the yard now tho.

  142. Tick Tock...Tick Tock...This Last Hour Is The Worst!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yes Mj, that's an option, but I find it distorts the image and you have to get the proportions right.
Multiply claims that you can also make the image bigger by dragging the corners and that
certainly doesn't work for me, talk about pixel distortion!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Yes, one hour to go and isn't it the tightest race ever!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. i do that all the time with my blog photos. the photos dont seem to be distorted.
and yeah heather is right, removing the reference link part of the html code (a href something something) embedding only the image (img... something) will prevent anyone from going to the original source of the photo when they click on it.

  146. about 30 minutes to go and it's a tight race, a great race.....

I am so glad to have had the opportunity to work with some new people that I might not have interacted with..... Mia, Harriet, Joanne and Vic..... of course Lisa, who is just a part of me.... thanks for being so easy to work with!
