Juxtaposition seems like such a hard word, doesn't it, but it is a concept quite easily grasped once you truly understand and have practiced it purposefully a few times, for many I know it was their first juxtaposition encounter, and I must say the majority of you did remarkably well.

the two houses

Two homes side by side. One filled with warmth and light, and the joy people bring. The other cold and empty..

Basically juxtaposition means capturing the relationship between subjects in a photo so that each part of the image has some bearing on and relativity to the other, yet the similarity of subjects showing some contrast or difference to the other, whether it is in colour, position or statement (such as a billboard). Most importantly remember the word juxtaposition means 'near/next to- position'

An important part of the challenge each week is capturing the theme, so we chose our Top Ten and HM's by those who had portrayed the theme in the best way AND posted a fabulous picture. There were however many with absolutely fabulous pictures but who missed the essence of the theme and therefore we were unable to include these in the selections.

This week has been a learning curve for sure, but hopefully we've come away enriched with yet another concept and dimension to photography!

Thank you all for participating and good luck to the Top Ten, the voting is for contacts only and will close on Sunday evening PST!

Keep your eye on the clock!

  35. this has been a great theme i think heather as its opened people to a different photographic concept..it isnt an easy one to really define but once you gain the techniques it is a powerful tool in your artistic arsenal
