First of all you all RAWK!!!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for making my first
Picture Perfect such an amazing experience.  I am so proud to be associated with such a great, creative group of people.  I think the best thing is that you all stepped out of the box on this one.  Freedoms really do come in all forms and is such a personal thing for all of us.

Just as the other hostesses have said it's not an easy job choosing the top ten.  Hardest thing I have done in a long time, but I think you will all agree with me they have shown there idea of freedom in their pictures.

Just a few minutes ago  Vickie made an observation.......this week we not only commented on the photos, we had conversation about them.  We shared more than our pictures, we shared a bit our hearts.  That is what it is about.  The competition is just an extra perk to what this is about.  Sharing our lives with each other.

I am not going to stand on ceremony and become overly verbose......soooo...... In not particular order.....TADA here are your Picture Perfect Top Ten for Freedom

  12. Thank you. Some of you know I work at night and am on my way out the door to head to that hospital on the hill. Want so much to take the time to visit those that have been to congratulate but somehow I don't think my boss would be as appreciative as I am. I will be around in the morning! How I admire beautiful photography but a photographer I am not so if on occasion a photo turns out that really touches me or someone else I get so excited. This is a total surprise. Thank you again. What a group to be in!

  15. how sad that she did not want to look at my PP
after 3 day commenting in every one picture the hostess did not look at my picture even though I remind her she skip mine
And yes I check the history and she did not.
to me it is a challenge to participated in this contest
    since I am vision impair.
    Congratulation and good luck.

  16. I will say this ... sometimes the history does NOT catch a person ... I have had comments left by people that did NOT show up in the history ... and I have researched and know that the opposite can happen too ... jus' sayin ...

    ReplyDelete

  22. Damn!!!! I missed it again!!!!! I have tons of pictures that I could have used for this catagory!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks so much for this great honor, to be listed among these great photos. How mine ended up here is a wonder... there are so many great shots from everyone to pick from and this was a real surprise. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. hello katya, i'm sorry you feel that way.

i see ms. tint visited your entry and she's one of the hosts.
i think, the 4 hosts divided the task of viewing all 300 plus more entries among themselves, as the new host can not possibly cope with all the entries by herself with all the preparations they gotta do for the july 4 party.

if ms. annie didn't pop on yours, it doesn't mean you are ignored.
ms. tint, ms. heather or ms. cherie's visit is also counted as a visit from the PPF.

i am not defending any of the ppf hostesses.
that's just the way i understand their round-robbin sked.

it's the 4th of July! party on people!

    ReplyDelete
  25. You can't always count on what your comments say either... I thought I had a nice photo..for once the composition and the size were right... it is the luck of the draw..
I kind of figured after seeing all the ones I saw... that the patriotic ones with the red , white and blue , would be less chosen...
10 woofs to Dogg... he made it through with his patriotic flag photo..
I want to thank everyone that visited and commented... you made me feel really good..
I also think that if you blog too much.. it is not good.
Well, we have 3 more weeks.. we will see what comes round.
just an observation... nothing against the judges... glad it isn't my job.. yes, I would have chosen something entirely different... no sour grapes... just a little disappointed..
Good Luck to the TOP TEN....

    ReplyDelete
  26. I feel like trayne it is just luck so congradulations to the top ten the judges do a wonderful job and with so many that is not easy sort of sad not more red white and blue or historic sites made it to the top ten but that is the luck of the draw
now it is onward to next week and another new picture so onward we go

    ReplyDelete
  27. Congratulations to everyone! I saw so many great pictures. I am glad I only have to vote for one out of 10.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Congrats to the top 10. Well done to you and to all the wonderful participants on here.
Great job Annie, hope you didn't do it all on your own.
    Blessings
    Mia

  29. Congrats to all of the top 10.
This was a fun week, thanks bunches and Happy 4th! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have to say I'm a tad disappointed myself. I honestly thought that more "out of the box" pictures would be chosen.
    Congrats to the top 10.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for putting me on the finals list I am so honored........but I really submitted this photo for all our men and women who take up arms to defend our nation.......and the fallen have just made it that much more special....again thank you for the honor.....

    ReplyDelete
  32. incredible choices for this week. well done everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. great shots - every one of them and congratulations. Now to choose!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats to all and good luck, although there seems to be a large proportion of July 4th pics chosen - perhaps one or two would have been better? Then there would be more choices for voting, a bit more balance between topics - if that makes sense? Not wanting to appear rude, just a bit of constructive criticism :))

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well done every one! Including Annie! It is always hard to be doing your first! Take the good points and the bad points shake tham in a bottle and on balance you will see a massively great job has been done. It is always difficult to choose! I usually try to pick the top ten for me and end up with about 25!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congratulations to all the top ten I have place my vote

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, I made it!! :-) it's really a surprise...especially this one just using my point and shoot... Thank you very much to everyone and those who vote for me... Freedom to everyone!!! ;-) Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congratulations to all top ten contestants ---- amazing photography and takes on this week's theme !!! Good luck to all of you !

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congratulations to all the finalists. I'd like to thank Annie for all the hard work she put in, in her first time as a member of the PP team, and first time as host. Well done Annie.
This theme has certainly been one that has gotten folks thinking. It has had some very good points and some not so. On the good side, as some folks have pointed out, this theme has actually gotten people talking. Comments have been a lot more than just "Hey, that's a nice pic" in many cases. They have actually been discussing their perceptions of freedom. On the down side, having this theme so close to the US 4th July celebrations almost guaranteed a preponderence of related entries, and this is reflected in the final ten. 50% of them are directly related, that seems a little unbalanced to me. That said, they are still great photos. Newsdogg's in particular.
My vote would surprise most people who know me. I have voted for Windin's photo of the bible. Why is that surprising? Because I'm an atheist, I have no belief in a god. I have no time for organised religions, I think they are one of the most devisive things in the entire world. However, the freedom to following your own beliefs, be they spiritual or secular, free from persecution and intolerance, is one of the most important freedoms of all. Oops, sorry for the essay!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Once again, many great entries!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congratulation on being top 10 guys..

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have been reading the comments, and just want to observe that it shows what I would have expected. Each one of us has an opinion...and some of us think other pictures, or other theme's should have been picked..or fewer of these should have picked or whatever. However, if they had picked a totally different group of 10, some would have been wishing that these had been picked. The judges are not going to totally please everybody...and nobody else would either.

On the whole I think this was a very good contest..yes, I wish there had been more non-specific to the US stuff chosen, but hey that is just one silly persons's thoughts. Great contest. and so what happens when the last week has come and gone..do we just disband??? Inquiring minds want to know and I was not here for the first one or two..(smile)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Congratulations to the top ten and to everyone who entered this week's contest. Freedom can mean so many different things...

    ReplyDelete
  44. it was a hard decision, but my vote is in : )

    ReplyDelete
  45. Picture perfect will remain, the contest is temporary ...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you all so much for your compliments on my photo and thank you for letting me be one of the top ten, it was a thrill and a surprise !!! May the best man/woman win !! It's all a fun time :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow I still didn't make the top 10...Oh well and I will be gone on Vacation next week.. Oh well Iwill get there one day I hope....

Congratualtions to everyone who sis make the top ten.. You all had wonderful pictures... Good luck to each of you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I do not mean to sound like a prude, but I read the rules and they say we are to post our own pictures.. in looking a the choices I find that 2 of them are pictures from Photobucket and one is a picture from Imageshack. To me that sounds like plagurism saying something is ours when you run your mouse over the picture is says it is from a sight such as photobucket....

Of course I have been wrong before.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Photobucket and Imageshack are just places on the internet to store your photos. I store mine at Flickr.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Whooohooo look at that Dogg go!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. most people have a photobucket site here...it doesnt suggest plagairism at all...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Congrats to the top 10! Great shots by everyone this week, bet the choice was tough...

    ReplyDelete
  53. This is a ten week competition..after that we revert back to the way we were..everyone still submitting their pictures with a chosen theme..the site has been running for a year now and we have no thoughts of disbanding!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Please remember folks, that if your page is missed during the competition..please send us a private message so that we can rectify that. It is never intentional but just a case of getting lost in the rush! Apologies to Katya, it was an honest mistake...:)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I was missed too, but that's okay. It was a holiday and I wasn't home to give a heads up. I figure everyone was busy with the holiday festivities. Congrats to the top ten!

    ReplyDelete
  56. The panel did a great job of picking 10 finalist...I enjoyed everyones photos.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thank you to everyone who has stopped by and left comments and congrats. It's been a lot of fun; there were soooo many awesome pictures, and I'm very honored (and surprised) to have been picked for the top 10. Good luck to all of the top 10 picks.

    ReplyDelete
  60. that Dogg is on some sort of special Dogg Vitamins methinks...

    ReplyDelete
  61. had my distemper shot earlier today ... flea dip comes later..... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Methinks the fleas are celebrating. Why cut them short?

    ReplyDelete
  63. so many of them ... they tend to be a distraction to chasing the cats ... and cars ...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Did you chase fireworks last night like our dogs did?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't mean to be stupid but... how do you know if your page is missed?

    ReplyDelete
  66. You can check if the PP headshot appears at the bottom in your viewing history or look for a comment by us. Bear in mind, that there are 3 team members, so the comment could also be done from our personal pages, tintalasia, aslowread, and freedomwriter.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I heard on FoxNews that a lot of dogggs ran from fenced in yards because of the noise ... lol ... also read where a doggg ate a sparkler ... a lit one ... yikes ...

    ReplyDelete
  68. yay!!! newsdogg is leading the pack!
care for a jar of kimchi mr. newsdogg?!

    ReplyDelete
  69. barbecue is a favorite in the doggghouse, but always open to new vistas of the taste bud variety ... and after looking it up ... I'll take a couple of food bowls of the kinchi ... many thanks

    ReplyDelete
  70. be careful doggg that kimchi is hot stuff buttttt for a hot dog like you it should be okay hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  71. oh great there she is with that darned Kimchee again......I tell you she is shameless hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree that you can never please all of the people all of the time :)
I am just pointing out that there was a slight bias towards 4th of July celebrations - as another 'silly' person has indicated here, and which others have expressed to me - not in a bitchy/angry/patronising way - just noting, gently, that the scales seemed tipped out of balance a little.
All photos were wonderful, all expressed so many different and unique perspectives.
I was nervous about expressing how I felt, but as we are all so supportive of each other here, and as we have been communicating so well, I hoped my thoughts would be taken in the spirit they were given - constructive, friendly and helpful :))
Annie has done wonderfully well in her 1st week as a host, and the team as a whole do a hard job very well.
Nobody minds who wins, who takes part, or what we all think, and everyone offers each other hints, ideas, opinions.
That is what makes this such a lovely place to be.
    Blessed Be

    ReplyDelete
  73. So I assume there are approximately 300 entries per weekly theme, and yes it is a bit discerning when you entered every single time and you think out of 70 choices you never make it. I imagine it is a hard job to chose but I see many repeats, sometimes I choose a picture for its quality and sometimes like this week just because it WAS the theme, no great work of art, but the subject couldnt mean freedom anymore, a holocaust survivor is a dying breed, and example of preseverance for freedom from horrible oppression. I too have felt disappointed....over...and over....and....haha. If I was judge of a contest of this type id give a varied array of interpretations on theme and quality.

    ReplyDelete
  74. As someone pointed out to me today. If 10 others were chosen, the team would probably have had a virtually identical response, except from different people. It happens every week. That's life : )

    ReplyDelete
  75. but ms. annie, me kimchi is really yummy! lol!
see, newsdogg wants two bowls! yay!
you don't want me offering dog soup instead, which is very popular here in Korea, too:) LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  76. as well as photography im currently growing Anaheim peppers surely that counts as spicy

    ReplyDelete
  77. hot is but one of the many, many, many adjectives that have been used to describe me starfish ...some are more pleasant than others ... ;->

    ReplyDelete
  78. doggg soup?? .... hey ... be nice to the dogggs!!! ... although I do stay in the soup quite often ...

    ReplyDelete
  79. You are absolutely right. Each of us have different perceptions of things, that is what makes each of us a unique individual with no other like us, acceptance of those differences is what makes us gracious! :)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Ok there is a lot of debating going on here but basically I want to know does the fleas the ability to cyber jump as I am itching???????

    ReplyDelete
  81. Another awesome set to choose from! Congrats to all!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I have a rather special flea that jumps into computers and makes the person itch ... but it also makes them smile ...

    ReplyDelete
  83. They sure do Doggg they sure do! Smiling here!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I want to thank Annie for her integrity, and good human relation
    she PM me
She apologized and Accept it was an error on her part, and that have lots of credit on my book,
It show a great person that is willing to compromised for the sake of human relation, peace and tranquility.
I must apologized myself if I jump the gum, those who speak out off haste will grow to regret it.
    Lots of love .

    ReplyDelete
  85. I"m just gonna go ahead and Congratulate Doggg now, because he will clearly be the winner...and deservedly so for such a beautiful photograph. Whether or not you agree with the sentiment behind the photo, you have to admit the composition and color is fantastic, and deserving of the win this week!

So Congratulations Doggg, Woof Woof!!!! :)~

    ReplyDelete
  86. let's not go counting our doggg biscuits before they are cooked ...

    ReplyDelete
  87. im folloing you endy,,, congratulationz dogggg....!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. phsssttt....

you've been in the lead since the poll started! :)~ I think it's safe!

    ReplyDelete
  89. buzcuitz did i hear food??? mmmmmm im hungry!
    are vve celebrating novv???? yyaaaayyy!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. The BEST pictures for the week are chosen by the four of us. This is not about giving everyone a turn to be a winner, we arent in kindergarten here. This is about honouring the pictures we as admins feel are the best that week..size. clarity angle, theme, all count towards getting chosen. These choices will be and often are a little different to ones you may choose...every week someone has an issue about a picture which perhaps (in their opinion) should or shouldn't be chosen, we cannot please you all, all of the time.

I think comments should and need to be an honest reflection of the picture, if a picture doesnt appeal to you then you need to objectively say why..without being cruel or hurtful. I feel this is a really important area of growth and will discuss this subject a little further and give some examples in a separate blog after the poll has closed.

    thanks,

    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  91. man it's hard to chose this week! so many great pictures! congrads to all of you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I agree - and have no problem with never being chosen :))
I think everyone has wonderful photos, whether 'professionally' taken or not - and that is why we return here, because it offers us insights into so many different perspectives, viewpoints and experiences
The competition part seems to rub some folk up the wrong way, but I am content to participate whether there is one or not - now I am brave enough to take part, and as a bonus, am mastering new bits of technology LOL

    ReplyDelete
  93. A great attitude to have Emma..and one I think for the most part is prevalent here..:)

    ReplyDelete
  94. I will admit that my submission for the theme curves, was one I personallly thouhgt deserved top ten, but made my opinion private. I am honored that twice in three weeks I have made the top ten. This week, I knew when I saw the other nine I was not close. I have come to learn that a) it is not easy to limit this to the top ten, in the 2 months I haver been a part of this it has grown 4 fold. b) the choices are made by committee not one person. If you are not happy with the process, then either stop submitting or start your own. I lifet my glass to the committee and thank them for their hard work

    ReplyDelete
  95. You know folks I consider myself a fair to middlin photographer. I have never been chosen....and that's ok.... It's not about the competition as much as seeing what we all can do. The competition was to add an extra bit of fun...... We are not awarding money, nor is it a national honor. It is just that FRIENDLY competition. We want to keep it that way.....

    ReplyDelete
  96. This competition seems to have brought out the best, and the worst... Annie, I agree with you, it's supposed to be fun. All it does for me is ruin the fun when people fuss about it. My pictures have never been chosen, most likely never will be, because, let's face it, they just aren't that good. Luckily, I don't care about the competition part. It's the fun and the challenge I care about. As bad as I hate to say it, I'll be glad when week 10 is over. All the negativity is just killin it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have a question...It seems to me that because we are asked to post what kind of camera we used, what lense we used and all..I am getting a feeling that it is who has the most expensive camera set up that makes the to ten.

Why is it necessary to have an expensive camera to get in the top 10?

Some people who can not afford the top of the line most expensive camera do not stand a chance because it may say in our post that we just used a disposable camera or something...
like many have already said, I am sure chosing a picture can be dificult.. and the angle and the lense used should not be what determines the top ten.

Maybe the responses to the pages should be what choses.. I have seen many pictures that I have thought should be a top 10 if not number 1 and the comments on the pages many poeple agee that said pictures are over the top. I do not look at the camera used. I see the picture and if it agrees with the theme, and what others are saying about the picture.

But I enjoy submitting my photos. I do not have the software to tweak them or to make them all fancy, and I do not have a fancy camera. It should not be about your ability or the cost of your camera... it does seem as if some of the same people are always making it into the top ten...

Maybe if you have another contest after this one.. there should 1) not be a compitition about what kind of camera is used. and 2) once a person's picture is chosen for top 10 maybe same person should not be chosen again in the same compitition.....Give everyone the same chance.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I don't think anyone picks the top photos based on how expensive the camera is.
But, it's a pretty basic fact that, while a disposable or inexpensive camera can take a great picture, a nicer camera is going to be easier to get a great shot with.

BTW, I only use a cheapie digital, nothing expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've been doin this since January, and it has always said you can mention your camera. NOWHERE does it say you HAVE to.

    ReplyDelete
  100. It's not about the camera used. It is about photography. The reason wa ask about the camera info if you have it. There are people who use the techniques that others use to try to recreate the same type of image.

It's not critera we use in selecing pictures. I have an old icky camera and a free editor I use from google......

    ReplyDelete
  101. well, I shall continue submitting pics and enjoying looking through all yours :)))

    ReplyDelete
  102. I'm with hedgewitch9....I just enjoy seeing all the pics....it's not about who is BEST....it's the fun of seeing everyones creativity!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think its time for a group hug.......
    :)))

    ReplyDelete
  104. I NEVER LIST THE CAMERA I USE, THE LENS OR HOW I ADJUSTED THE PHOTO. THIS WEEK I USED A 15 YEAR OLD PHOTO TAKEN WITH BELIEVE IT OR NOT REAL 35MM FILM. MY SCANNER MADE IT DIGITAL. I TAKE TOTAL EXCEPTION TO THIS REMARK!

    ReplyDelete
  105. LOL newsdogg - as long as theres mutual consent ~ :))

    ReplyDelete
  106. a true southern doggg such as muah would have it no other way ...

    ReplyDelete
  107. safe sane consentual....group groping.....I think that is the group down the hall and to the left LOL

    ReplyDelete
  108. no, that's the place where the broom closet is ... with the clan we have in this thread ... a MUCH bigger room is needed ... I am thinking maybe the JawJa Dome ...

    ReplyDelete
  109. Of course, I would not expect a gent such as yourself to behave in any other way than with total respect LOL

Broom closet? darn it, I wondered why it was always so quiet in there

    ReplyDelete
  110. And now, it is very late over here, and I am off to snooze... :))

    ReplyDelete

  114. I didn't list my camera because for some reason after I posted my photo I couldn't write anything but believe me I haven't a very expensive camera , so that just goes to prove that it isn't about the quality or the price of the camera mine is a Canon Power Shot A30 bought at WalMart lol so that quashes that idea lol

  115. hmm..another fun-filled, challenging week and...controversial? Ah well, all is fair in love and war, as the cliche goes. I've read somewhere: "In life there are no mistakes, only lessons." So perhaps, there are several lessons for us this week. The different facets of freedom in art and real life, maybe?

Cheers, everyone, we are learning together. Happy Sunday!!! :->

  117. Sigh....ok, I submit pictures and they do not win, but I love knowing that hundreds of other people are looking at what I did and they are either thinking "hey thats good", or laughing and saying "lady, you need major help"...either way I am enjoying the experience of sharing and seeing other pictures. Wonderful thing to do...!
And back in the stone age when I was little, I learned that not all of us have the same talents and abilities. I may not be good with a camera, but I may be good at something else...face it..thats the way life goes. We are not all going to win, but we keep trying.
AND the reason that some folks are ALWAYS MAKING IT IN THE TOP TEN is that they are really good at taking pictures. And I disagree that they should be restricted to the number of times they can win...if they are good ten times then they dang well deserve to be in the Top Ten all TEN TIMES!
I applaud those folks who have made the top ten more than once because they have had the guts to get out there and take a noticably great shot.
Thanks for the opportunity to share my opinion.

  118. Id just like to say the "tiramisu" photo I got top 10 with a week or so back was taken on a low cost camera bought way back in 2004, but for some pictures you dont need vast megapixels or expensive lens just a good judge of lighting

  119. hard to imagine a world without wal mart

    ReplyDelete
  120. I agree! :)

It's all about the fun, and while I'm honored to have made the top ten this week, it's certainly not my objective each week. The contest is fun, yes, but it's fun without the contest as well.....

  122. Congrats to Newsdoggg!!

Thank you to TPTB, it was a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to the next theme. Whether or not I'm in the top 10 is not why I participate, I do it for the exposure to people around the world, the history/background, and the great pictures.

Until Wednesday...have a great week everybody!

  123. I usually don't like to respond to such controversy, but I'm a bit taken back by some of the comments. We were gracioulsy accepted to be a part of this site which is someone elses idea and vision of what it should be. I accepted being a part of their vision and thus will abide by their rules and decisions. If at any point they ask for my opinion, I will gladly give it in a constructive manner.

First of all, for me this is about learning...if I want to tweak a picture to try a different effect, I don't think that should be counted against me or anyone else trying to expand their horizons. As has already been said, many people use free resources on the computer to download their photos and to...as what you call..."tweak" them. I have purchased a program to edit and change things, but I'll be danged if I know how to use it properly yet...that's the point...I'm learning.

1)Not once has it been said that you are judged upon the camera you use. I like having the camera listed for when I want to purchase a new camera I will have acquired a lot of information on different cameras and their abilities. 2) if a person can take great photos, then why shouldn't they continue to be recognized for that?

It's not about a contest and winning for me...it's about acquiring knowledge, skill, and vision on how to take a fantastic photograph. I'm grateful to the many who seem to have such a natural ability and knack for photography...they stretch my horizons and give me new vision with broader perspective.

I hope this doesn't come across as harsh, for it is not intended to be that way, but just a reminder of what our purpose here should be. A little competition now and then should provoke us to be better.

  124. oh and by the wayyyyyyy sorry to be lengthy and mostly I came here to CONGRATULATE Newsdogg...WELL DONE and Very deserved!

  125. Good grief, what is going on here? This a picture exercise, which was given a tweak for the summer to include a comp. This was to get us thinking a fresh and hieghten the enjoyment by taking it out of the norm. Forgive me for saying but are some of us taking this way to seriously!!!!
    1) Top ten is top ten - not top ten excluding last weeks top ten! (How complicted would that get, if you were top ten week one do you sit out). This is for fun for goodness sake!!!!!
    2) First timers and old timers have been in the polls. Cheap camera and professional jobs - no biais- given
    3) Some declare there photos to be untouched - some state camera (I do ever now and then), some don't! I use free softwear if I do but usually it is the picture manager on my windows I use!
I have really enjoyed this exercise. When I look at the pictures I really look to see how it fits the theme and to see if I would top ten it. I love the top ten to see if I was right! and sometimes I get them all (but you should the other in my list! about 25 in total)
Please remember this is for fun! Maybe I would have chosen differently, maybe I would have different people and a different pictures types ( two very similar pics this week) but I am NOT chosing and if I wanted to choose I would set up my own page, but I believe tint, heather and annie are doing a brilliant job!
If you are not in the top ten this week try again for next week!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Quite!
I think a constructive comment such as one about a bias etc is fair enough, but as for worrying over cost of camera, whether one wins, and if same person happens to win more than once - does this matter? In the wider scheme of things?
I have learned so much about how to use and display photos, on my cheap and cheerful digital. I have done as others too, and scanned in pics taken with my old 35mm.
And each week I love seeing everyone's shots, and I am humbled and very appreciative of everyone's comments on my little efforts!

Congrats to those who win, well done to those who have to run the site, and as each of us listens and takes on board each others Constructive Opinions, I am sure this will run and run and get better each week!!!

    :)))

    ReplyDelete
  127. I believe no one has WON twice? am I right?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Yes hedgewitch, I have learned so much, and am really thinking how the picture comes together and how I display it. Trying to keep it the focus of the blog - also I think more about the picture - and does it fit and stuff! I learn so much looking at other peoples picture!!! Going that works now why does it work!!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Exactly!! - seeing how and why and what people have done, why it works, why it doesnt - I am thoroughly enjoying being here!! :))

    ReplyDelete
  130. Whoa!!! ... I am appreciative for those that saluted my picture. I was in the front row with nine others who were judged among the best. I truly believe there could just have easily been 10 other pictures chosen. I will say the following, and many will say that it is easy for me to say, because I was chosen a winner. I will let that reasoning reside with you. I am speaking from the heart, and for that, I will not apologise or shrink. I would say it whether my picture was chosen for a Top 10, or if I entered every week and was never recognized at all.

When I disagree with a person, I let reality be the final arbiter; if I am right, he or she will learn; if I am wrong, he or she will learn; one of us will win, but both will profit.

I also know that opinions are like butts - everyone has at least one and sometimes, two, depending on how overbearing they are as they push their opinion.

There are a lot of you that are better image capturers than yours truly. We wander around with our imaginations, and when we think things are right, in our imaginations, we push a button and make time stand still.

The images we embrace are ones that either tell a story, or capture our fancy.

When you join close to 100 people who use the imagination to freeze a moment, there are many things that drive us.

We, hopefully, can look at our images and other images and come to an allowence of differences ... in likes, dislikes, nationalitues, attitudes and expectations.

The team at Picture Perfect is burdened with the responsibility of picking bests of those choices and putting them into a pot for judging.

With the competition, they automatically open themselves up for opinions from around the world about their selections. True, freedom is a wide-ranging topic, and means so much to so many. From being freed from an addiction to a nudist being freed of clothing. But freedom is a world-wide concept. Even in places where freedom is not encouraged, it is taken.

I thank them for undertaking Picture Perfect. I further salute them for having to have thick skin when the questions and accusations come.

As I read the diversity of opinions that the Picture Perfect gang drew in their selections, I was angered at first. My view was - don't hate - appreciate. Appreciate their effort for creating a space for us to share and glare. Appreciate their effort for trying to keep Picture Perfect fresh by adding a judging.

Then, I realized that beauty, or lack of it, is in the eye of the beholder. Our earth is a melting pot of individuals and ideas. And, so, I hope that we will all disagree agreeably, agreeably in the facet that we will allow others to have their own opinion, even if it wanders from what we believe ... many woofs! ...

Thank you for turning on another light so I can see more clearly.

  139. You are so right... I meant no disrespect, and if you read lower below my comment I am not the first person to have commented about this. Maybe my comment is most responded to because I attempted to explain why I was asking the question.
I enjoy the contest, and viewing the many different aspects of who people consider a side of the subject matter. And I plan to continue to post my pictures weather or not ever make the top 10.

I meant no disrespect... I am sorry if I have offened you or anyone else.

  140. Hey everyone,
Just going to add my 20 pence into the mix.

First of all, well done to Annie for being a great host. Congratulations to everyone who made the top ten.

I love Picture Perfect because, for me at least, it lets me look through my personal photo archive and think outside of the box in the quest for something that fits the theme as I don't have many opportunities now to take photos and I'm still waiting to 'inherit' Mum's phone with the good cam when she gets an upgrade. As cliched as this is going to sound, it's not about the winning -- it's the taking part that counts. This is a competition that covers most of the planet, bringing people together to share photos, to share their own interpretations of each set theme.

Personally, I think that the top ten should reflect this aspect of diversity of the competition... and to be honest, I am rather disappointed that at least half the entries for the top ten are US-related. But you know, it's not the end of the world -- they are very good pictures and deserve the accolade... and I understand how hard it must be for 3-4 PP reps to go through 300+ entries over the course of three days. That's not to say that the choices aren't diverse because they are with regard to the interpretations, but my point is that freedom is an idea that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, and that is why I am disappointed at what just seems to me as flag waving. Before I get flamed for that, I'll just add that that is just my opinion and I'm not holding it against anyone.

As for the camera thing, I know what you mean. However, the pictures are, from what I've seen, judged by composition, how they fit the theme, and overall quality. Some of the best pictures are taken with disposable cameras and low res digicams. The camera stat thing, while optional, is, as far I know, just an fyi thing for people interested in how you achieved a certain effect.

I enjoy the competition -- it's great. Thanks guys for making it happen and for organising something which must be hell, pardon my French, to keep track of and officiate in. Thanks also for providing a platform for us to be able to have this debate in the first place, to share photos and to comment about them, to share our individual interpretations of each theme.

    tc,

    : )

  141. Once again I am sory if I offeneded anyone... i was asking a question and I am an over explainer.. I do not feel I people understand a question unless I explain why I ask the question.

I enjoy the contest and I am thankful for all of the comments usualy about 88 on my page...per week. Some times more sometimes less.

I was in no way trying to say the contest is not run fairly... I was simply asking a questiuon and explaining why I asked the question.

I am sorry if I have offeneded anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Once again I am sorry if I have offeneded you or anyone else here...
i enjoy seeing all ofthe different picttures.. But to say I am learning anything about how to make my old picture better, I can not say that I have learned anything...Other than how to appreciate that many people have different views of the same topic. and that is what makes it exciting for me..sheeing all ofthe different cultural opinions of one subject matter.
I am sorry if I have offeneded you or anyone else.

  143. I was in no way attempting to come acrost as hateful in the question that I asked and then attempted to explain why I asked the question.

I congratulate you on your win this week..You submitted a great photo of the flag flying.

I suppose this goes to show that my boring life is not good enough to be a top 10...But I still plan to submit my photos because I enjoy doing so...

    I truly meant no disrespect.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Maybe I stand corrected... I am sorry for being wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  145. my acceptance speech spoke in generalities of what I saw across the board in the threads ... our lives tend to be as exciting as we make them ... AND as we perceive them ... no offense taken ...

  146. I can only wish I was as good with words as you are...what I post does not come across in a clear enough meaning, I am guessing... I had not at any time thought abotu the reason the camera type was asked for as an FYI thing.. I am sorry for misunderstanding the reason for wanting the camera type posted.

I too enjoy the competition, and I do appreciate all of the hard work that goes into judging the many submitted entries.

I am sorry if any of my comments have offeneded you or anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  147. <~~~~ Thumbing through my photos waiting for next week's theme!!!

  148. Honestly, it IS about learning, accepting of other's views, opening ourselves up and seeing beauty in something that maybe we might not have noticed.
BUT, we are human here, people. We aren't always going to agree. For those of us who work very hard on our photos (my photo took at least an hour to edit and frame) it can be sometimes disappointing to not see it in the top ten. Same goes for those with a cheaper camera, sometimes they cannot capture the beauty that more expensive cameras do. I agree with that! My daughter and I took the same pictures for the 4th of July, but my 250 dollar camera did much better than her 100 dollar camera.
Since this topic was about freedom, I think everyone has a right to their opinions and should be able to express them. That's what learning is all about.
I only saw a few out of the top ten that I would have chosen. I am supportive of PP and their choices, but that doesn't mean we all have to agree!
So let's just all agree to disagree.
I think things will be better when we're back to just showing off our beautiful pictures instead of this competition. Photography shouldn't be rated anyhow, just displayed and admired.

  151. A few thoughts..
It's Monday, and a new week. I have been away since last Wednesday, and am trying to catch up some blogs. Looking through the top ten, I was surprised that so many were directly connected to US. They all had a clear political message.
For millions, US represents freedom, but millions would also think differently about that.
Each one of us love our own flag and country, regardless of where we live. We post images and write blogs about what is on our mind, as we should. So far so good.

And then...PP is about having "fun." It's open for anyone from the whole world, and I have really loved the free sharing of images from countries I know little about. I have also seen the building of bridges between people from different nations. This is what we need today~~
But having "fun" isn't always easy in a multicultural group as we are. This week's theme and responses underline that.
Looking at the fine top ten images, I found myself wondering: Would they be selected and become winners if the flags and soldiers were from for example Afghanistan or Nigeria..
We tend to be more influenced by our culture and our governments politics that we usually are aware of.

Thanks to mitchyr for a great comment.
And thanks to freedomwriter for being the hostess!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Do you know what? I am guilty of this.. If people from different nations posted their flags as a symbol of Freedom.. I am not sure I would understand the semblance's...
I mean I do not know what all of the other countries flags look like...I would not know that the flag in their picture was their country's symbol of freedom.
I am sorry for not knowing more about the countries.
I can't speak for anyone besides myself but I think it possible that more people may be in the same boat I am in...I hope we all have on deodorant and breath mints in our pockets...it could get crowded if others realize.

    ReplyDelete
  153. ..which i think is why we are here..learning and sharing and getting to know many diverse cultures from all corners of the world...we live and learn, each week!

  156. For the record, the first sight millions all had to pass on their way as immigrants to the "New World" was the Statue of Liberty, which they saw on ships heading to Ellis Island (now the national museum on Immegration) the disembarkmnet point to New York and the rest of the United States. As I stated in my photo commentary it IS a symbol of Fredom for the ENTIRE WORLD!!

During the last student uprising in China in the late 1990's they erected a Statue of Liberty. The Chinese Government made it a point to show on the news the destruction of that statue. My photo represented a truly worldwide symbol.

As for Dogg's photo, take away the fact it was an US flag, the photo on its own mertis was an awesome shot. There are those in prisons for political reasons that have not seen a sunrise or sunset in years. How incredibly on theme is it to have a flag, any flag flapping in the breeze with the sun of freedom shining through
